FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Dawn Dusk–A Documentary On Healing After Loss Will Debut August 15 on Tubi and Amazon

Buffalo 8-acquired film follows one designer’s healing journey through grief, creativity, and advocacy after her sister’s murder

Los Angeles, CA — June 23, 2025

Dawn Dusk, a new documentary recently acquired by Buffalo 8, follows leather bag designer Chelli Look as she navigates through grief after losing her sister to domestic violence. Directed by Blue and Jason Gerber, the film premieres August 15, 2025 on streaming platforms including Tubi and Amazon. Chelli’s nonlinear path toward healing and forgiveness unfolds through powerful imagery that balances both sorrow and light.

“We’ve spent years pouring our hearts into making this film, following the dawns and dusks of Chelli’s journey, and we can’t wait to share her story of healing and hope,” stated Blue Gerber.

The film follows Chelli, who is in the midst of launching her new leather bag collection, Dawn Dusk. The viewer observes her wrestle with the weight of running a business, remaining an artist at heart, while trying to honor her sister’s legacy. Chelli’s search for healing and her creative voice are poignant and relevant for anyone who's experienced loss. With painterly visuals of the sun rising and setting, Dawn Dusk intimately captures an artist’s journey through grief and search for purpose. The score, crafted by Emmy-award-winning composer Silas Hite, blends haunting melodies with moments of radiance, capturing the emotional complexity of Chelli’s experience.

After a seven-year journey to make the film, and a 2024 World Premiere at the American Documentary and Animation Film Festival in Palm Springs (AmDocs), Dawn Dusk will be available for free on Tubi and for purchase and rental on Amazon this August, followed by additional platforms.

“Dawn Dusk is exactly the kind of emotionally resonant film we look to champion,” said Nikki Stier Justice, Head of Buffalo 8 Distribution. “It’s timely, personal, and deeply human.”

“I’ve been on a long journey of grief, anger, healing, and forgiveness. I’ve come to realize that I don’t want to know the why. There is absolutely no justifiable answer to domestic violence on any level, ever. Yet it is one of the most common injustices in our society,” stated Chelli Look.

Volunteering with the WINGS Program, a Chicago-based nonprofit dedicated to ending domestic violence, has been a meaningful part of Chelli’s healing process. More than 16 million people in the U.S. suffer from intimate partner abuse per year. In Chicago alone, the city’s police department receives an average of 500 domestic violence calls each day, which is over 182,000 calls a year, according to the WINGS Program website.

The film touches on grief, fashion, entrepreneurship, the arts, and social justice, creating many ways for the viewer to relate to Chelli’s story, and calls the viewer to answer the question, “What kind of legacy do you want to leave?”

“I am always struck by how the film facilitates space for the audience to process their own journey toward healing and creative self-discovery. Many folks have approached us after screenings to share how the film touched them, and we’re looking forward to expanding that conversation,” stated Jason Gerber.
