Filmmaker and Accessible Travel Writer
Sylvia Longmire is an award-winning filmmaker, author, accessible travel writer, and disability rights advocate. A service-disabled U.S. Air Force veteran and former federal agent, she has been a full-time power wheelchair user since 2014.
Sylvia is the creator of Spin the Globe, an accessible travel blog where she shares firsthand accounts, practical advice, and resources for wheelchair users who want to explore the world. Her travel writing has appeared in The New York Times, Lonely Planet, and other major outlets. She is also the author of several books, including accessible travel guides, as well as books drawing on her earlier career and expertise in national security and border issues.
Her work has taken her around the world, combining lived experience with a commitment to making travel more accessible and inclusive.
As a director and producer, Sylvia brings that same perspective to documentary filmmaking, telling stories centered on disability, accessibility, and identity. Her documentary short The View From Down Here has received festival recognition and an award, and she is currently directing Walking Dreams, a feature documentary exploring why so many full-time wheelchair users dream they can walk.
