As an accidental advocate for adults with Spina Bifida, I've spent the last four years of my life navigating uncharted territory into a world of medical malpractice, nerve damage, and loss of function. During this time, I've ventured to piece together a comprehensive medical team through research, networking, and travel. To share these hard-won insights, I recently created the Instagram page "ileosychronicity"; named for meaningful connections forged in the unexpected (in this case, the need for a life-changing ileostomy).
In Jan 2023, I will undergo my fourth major surgery in as many years - this time at the Cleveland Clinic - in the hopes of remedying the original damage done in 2018, once and for all. In doing so, I aim to inspire others to pick up the pieces and regain control over their lives in the face of seemingly insurmountable obstacles.
From total dependency on my family and social security disability to achieving a fulfilling career in clinical recruitment, my story has been one of balance, perseverance, and mental fortitude. And it's truly just beginning.
